Information about the Risks of Tattoos and Permanent Make-up (PMU):
Do not get a tattoo or PMU:
• On areas where you have undergone plastic surgery or radiation in the past year;
• On a scar that is less than a year old;
• On a spot that has been tattooed or had PMU applied less than six weeks ago;
• On an area where a tattoo or PMU has been removed by laser less than three months ago, or where the laser wound has not yet healed;
• On irritated skin such as bumps, dark moles, or swelling;
• If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
It is also advised not to get a tattoo or PMU if you suffer from any of the following conditions:
• Diabetes;
• Hemophilia;
• Chronic skin disease;
• Allergy to tattoo materials or ink;
• Immune disorders;
• Cardiovascular disorders.
Do you have any of these conditions, or are you taking anticoagulants or antibiotics? And do you still want a tattoo or PMU? Consult with a doctor first to discuss the possibilities.
Getting a Tattoo or Permanent Make-up (PMU):
Since tattooing or applying PMU involves creating a wound, there is a risk of transmission of blood-borne diseases such as hepatitis B and C. Therefore, ensure that the tattoo artist or practitioner follows hygienic practices. Proper hygiene is also essential to prevent your new tattoo or PMU from becoming infected. Make sure that:
• The skin is cleaned, disinfected, and, if necessary, shaved with a new disposable razor before tattooing or applying PMU;
• The needles and ink are sterile and used only for you; the needles are individually packaged, and ink is placed in small ink cups;
• Clean tissues are used to clean the skin during tattooing or applying PMU;
• The tattoo artist or practitioner wears gloves during the procedure and replaces them if they touch anything other than the tattoo machine, pigmentation pen, tissue, or your skin;
• The tattoo or PMU is cared for and covered after the procedure.
**Aftercare:**
A new tattoo or PMU is similar to a scrape. Poor care and unhygienic treatment can cause wound infections and scar tissue. Additionally, wound infections can result in a less attractive tattoo or PMU. If you care for the tattoo or PMU properly, it will take two to six weeks for the wound to heal. The tattoo artist or practitioner will provide written aftercare instructions for tattoos or PMU. Please read them carefully.
