Description

Nuad Thai

Nuad Thai is the traditional Thai Massage and was added to the Unesco list of protected intangible heritage in 2019. Nuad Thai has its origins in the farming society in Thailand. Each village had its own masseurs, where the villagers could go in case of complaints such as muscle pain after a day's work in the fields. In the meantime, this technique has spread throughout Thailand. A massage is seen as part of regular health care and masseurs are real doctors for the Thai. Unesco therefore sees Nuad Thai as an expertise that has been passed on from generation to generation and has resulted in a recognized teaching.
